Shaun stood alone in the aquarium. Under in the below ground level viewing hall. looking into the abyss which was the section the dolphins swam around in.
The hall was dark, only blue light from the water came through enough to light up the hallway. The light sucked into the water from the moon. Of course it was not possible for him to be there during public hours. He had to sneak in after the janitor finally went home. He was an infected. Doomed to a life of running and hiding. But Shaun figured why not. If he was going to die by being hunted, then he might as well enjoy the run by doing things to make himself happy.
Such as coming to see the other test subjects. Cause really the sea creatures and animals here didn't belong here. It was all a big test to see if they could adapt to the environment, enough to just sit there and be observed and watch by the pathetic lazy humans. The lazy humans that won't put in enough effort to go to the actual river or ocean or lake to see the animals in they're natural state.
He sighed. his dad had been a long one. But the night always was comforting. Even before he knew he was infected and life was happy and great in the city. He liked to escape to the wide field or a park to either just sit on a rock tree or grass and just look up at the moon. Maybe it was a cancer thing. Who knows. All he knew is there was something about just looking at the moon and stars that made him feel at home where ever he was. It was a good feeling. To know you could be 10,000 miles from home and still feel at home really.
Although now home was just a hideout. He still felt like the other infected were family. To be there from now on, through thick and thin. Through the dark times and the light ones.
He really wanted to go above and jump int the water and swim with the dolphin glancing playfully over at Shaun, but really he knew if he did, the infection within him might contaminate the water and kill the dolphin, for it may not be able to handle the infection genetically.
He stepped closer. Face just barely an inch away fro the glass. and he put a hand on the window. Looking at the dolphin with sympathy and yet envy at the same time. It could live free and loved by the humans, not free really, but without a true care. And was loved by all. Shaun knew he was hated, hunted and looked at like a disease, a problem. A corpse still walking around, since he was as good as dead.
Silence filled the hall. HIs hearing was tuned for sound. He could hear very well. That was one of the infections body tweaks for him. Some of the tweaks, he didn't take note of, but they helped survival. He could hear a bird fly over the water above. A car honk from 3 blocks away. A mouse skitter across the floor in the hall. Which he had already heard twice.

Brynn shook her head, she wondered how long she been day dreaming. It was still day light when she had went to get supplies to start clean-up. Brynn looked down at her hands, she was still holding a full bottle of windex, and a roll of paper towels sat on desk infront of her. Brilliant, she had no idea what time of the night it was, and she still had to clean all of the veiwing glass in her sector. She knew it had to be done, so why sit around twitteling her thumbs when she should have been home god knows how long ago.
As she stood from her seat, she sighed and examined the darkness outside of the window, but knew that her staring at it wasn't going to make the sun come up. She grabbed the roll of paper towels as she exited the room.
Outside of the small office was a flight of stairs. Brynn hated stairs, she hate going down them, going up them, standing on them, or even standing under them for that matter. She ran a hand throught her dark locks, or at least the portion of it that wasn't tied back in her messy bun. Fear, or no fear, she had a job to do, and that job was down those stairs. She took in a deep breath and practically ran down the steps.
Should I start at the bottom or the top? Brynn questioned herself, but she decided to starting at the top would be best, for today at least. She shoved the roll of paper towels under her arm after tearing off a few for the time being. She lifted the windex bottle and was startled to hear a loud thud echo through the hall, followed by wetness on her feet.
Quickly, Brynn stepped away from the spreading puddle of windex and dropped to her hands and knees, the paper towel roll that had been under her arm rolled arms length away from her. She threw the paper towels that had been in her hand ontop of the spill, but it wasn't enough. She hurridly reached for the roll and started piling paper towels ontop of the spill to soak it up.
"Why do these things always happen to me?" Brynn asked retorically to herself. She sat flat on her bottom, her legs outstretched at angles. "Great," she said after hearing her stomach growl. "Ugh," she exclaimed and let the upright portion of her body collapse on the ground. This had to be unsanitary, but at the moment she wasn't concerned with that.

Whilst he peered into the far stretching water tank that with held this dolphin, he heard a sound. A person, he could hear the... girls.. breathing pattern. She had no idea he was there. Maybe it oughta stay that way. Maybe not. He looked her way, ready for the unexpected. What if she was pretending not to notice him and was trying to trap him, catch him off guard before shooting him. The unlikely was likely when you were infected.
"why do these things always happen to me?" He heard her voice say.
He quirked a brow slightly before his eyes turned from the lighter shade of tension back to calm hazel, blending back into the shadow he was already apart of. Thank goodness for black clothes. Without them he would stand out like a spotlight in Gotham city.
"Ugh" Was the last thing he heard her say aloud. As he looked on, her body collapsed to the floor. Either she was going into some kind of medical arrest or she was tired. Possibly stressed. She looked quite human, and he didn't really get that infected vibe. It was interesting how we all seemed to just be able to kinda guess and assume who each other is by the look in the eye and the vibe.
He stood now in between the two windows and into the complete shadow. Where he leaned against the wall with his arms now folded. He light out a sigh. Not really realizing the kind of sound this hall could carry. Crap. Did he just blow his cover? Maybe. Maybe not. He just kept in his spot, leaned against the wall, still relatively relaxed and still. Would she noticed his presence. or would she continue on as he calmly gazed over in her direction. He kind of was interested in seeing human behaviour. The emotions. The fear. The anger. The Hate. The Love. The unsure. The hesitant. The sorrow. Everything about mankind really. Even body language interested him.

A few moments before Brynn had had no intention of moving from the cool floor. It was soothing in a way, despite it's filth. Though it was most likely the water and marine life that soothed her, rather than the tile on which she lay. She crossed her arm over her stomach, her breathing slow and steady as she watched the light shimmering in the tank before her. Without warning, her palms met the ground and she pushed herself into a sitting position and quickly stood. She made her way to the tank and tapped the glass. In front of her was a dolphin.
"I bet it's lonely here at night, huh, Skye," Brynn directed at the dolphin in the tank. She placed her hand on the glass, and let out a breath, looking Skye in the eyes. She rested her head on the glass, "I know even I get lonely at night, and there are tons of my kinda around." he gaze shifted to the floor, "I can only imagine how you fe...." Brynn stopped in mid sentence. Footstep? Couldn't be, surely she was the only one still here. She looked in the general direction of the sound, there was nothing there. Stop it, you're just paranoid! Get a grip. She told herself as she looked into the darkness. She drew in a long breath and turned her gaze back to Skye's tank, surprised to find that she was no long in the same place.
A few meters over her nose was pressed against the tank wall. Brynn walked over a few steps, but as she walked she her something, or more likely, someone. She stopped dead in her tracks, her heart started racing. Paranoia was setting in.
"Hello?" she asked her voice quivering. She stepped closer and squinted, like that would help her see through the dark. She stood still, drawing in quick breaths, "If you're there... please, just say something. Whoever you are, you're freaking me out." Brynn's luck there was no one there and she was talking to herself.

He could see that by the time she finally really realized something or someone was lurking about. He felt sympathy for her fear. No one should have to live in fear for long. He couldn't help that by now in this state of alert-readiness his eyes were back to fading in colour. If only it was that controllable. Maybe for some, not for Shaun though.
He could sense the uncertainty in her by the quiver in her voice. It reminded him of how he felt the first time he stayed at the hideout. Unsure. Nervous. Slight Parinoia and fear.
"The names Shaun." He said simply. Figure the calm in his voice would either help calm her too. Or on the other hand it might freak her out that he was so content in his tone. As if he might have been watching her this whole time....... which he was.
"What are you doing here so late? Aren't most girls your age afraid of the dark still..?" He asked. Most of the human girls in this city feared the dark still, for you never know how many infected could be lurking about. Just as Shaun had been that evening.
He quirked a brow and kept his original stance, just leaning against the cold cement wall. From within the shadow he felt almost safe. Secure. Untraceable. Temporaily. Or.. not now I guess because he spoke. But if he would have stayed silent, she may not have know this whole time. Creepy, I know.

Brynn let out a breath and drew back in quickly. Shaun's voice shocked her, deep down inside she had hopped it had just been her paranoia. Like always, nothing she wanted to happen ever happened.
Looking over her shoulder quickly, she could see a small box. She walked backward toward it. She looked away from the shadows for a moment, but then looked back quickly.
"Try anything, and I'll press this button," she told him pointing to a red button uncased in a glass box, hoping her threat would keep him at bay. The opened the box, it read supplies on the front. Grabbing a flashlight from it she point it at Shaun and turn it on. Light illuminating Shaun, and putting her mind at ease. He didn't look any other than herself. "There, that's better," she said grinning nervously.
((Eww crappy short post. Sorry.))

The look in her eyes told him that she was a little stunned that someone actually was there.
"Try anything, and I'll pres this button." ... "There thats better."
After her saying so, he squinted and lifted the right hand to block the light from his eyes. He just decided to close his eyes for about 4-6 seconds. It was either that or she would instantly know by his eye colour change that he was an infected. He wondered if she knew already. If so, it obviously didn't take the highest priority for bothering her.
He tilted his head sideways. "Ya, you done making me feel like a rock star or should we play 20 questions?"
His sarcastic smirk. Direct eye contact, waiting for response. He was feeling her out in a way. Like a first impression. As if he was in his mind placing her with the rest of the humans or the individuals. But at the same time, if he could do anything to prevent her from knowing he was infected, he would.

"So, erm... Shaun was it?" Brynn said ignoring his 20 questions comment. She moved a little closer, keeping a close eye on every move he made. She hadn't realized until after Shaun covered shielded his eyes that she had her flashlight pointed directly at his face. She pointed it his chest so that he was able to see, but she was still able to watch everything he did with ease. "Why are you here?"
Surely he had better place to be than an aquarium, who wanted to rob an a place like this. Come to think of it, what could they possibly want, a fish? Maybe a sting ray to keep in their bathtub. She grinned at the though, not even realizing she had done so.
((Crappy and short yet again, sowwe!)

"Yeah thats it" He said confirming his name.
As she moved closer, he saw that she was keeping a very close eye on him. Finally once the flashlight was directed to his chest he blinked and looked on at her.
"And you?"
"Why are you here?"
He tried to think of a sensible excuse. But really.. who was sensible these days. So who really needed a sensible answer? Not I. Not Shaun. Actually when Shaun had good ideas, there must be too much caffeine in it.
"Well my dad met me mom. Or.. I'm here in the Aquarium cause I came to visit Skye." He said breaking the stare-gaze and looked toward the tank and his eyes scanned the blue for a dolphin. The dolphin, Skye.
"Why are you here?" He asked, not pulling his eyes away from the tank. He wanted to see Skye come up to the glass again. He really felt a connection with that mammal.

Well, my mom met me dad." Brynn couldn't help grin, a breathy laugh escaping her lips. Not good, she was letting her guard down. What if this guy was some sort of serial killer or rapist. She quickly stopped laughing and her face turned stern again.
"I'm here because I work here," she told him not bothering to explain why she was here so late. That was probably what he requested a reason for. She wasn't going to elaborate more than she had to, why chance saying something she may regret, or that could cause something to happen to her.
Nonchalantly she leaned against the glass. Her feet were aching even though she hadn't been on them for a long period of time, the ache was caused more by her labor during the earlier hours of her shift. "I'm guessing you've snuck in here before, am I correct. I mean, you do know the dolphin by name. Or was that only because I was talking to her earlier?"

"I'm guessing you've snuck in here before, am I correct. I mean, you do know the dolphin by name. Or was that only because I was talking to her earlier?"
"Well do you want the truth, or just what you might be hoping to hear?" He snickered.
Without waiting for any kind of reply he spoke again. "I've seen you here before. I've been here before. Sometimes more than you, from what I gather... I must confess I like animals, in this case a mammal, better than h-- people."
He stopped himself from saying human like it was a disease. Seeing as he did know a few humans that were pretty alright. Like house. or Jason. Shaun thought they were okay to be around.
"I'm a person of the night. I don't like facing the moronic and stupid people of the daytime rush here. I'd rather have quiet and just basically one-on-one time with Skye.. Yano what I'm sayin?"
He said now looking back toward her, leaning against the cold cement once more. It felt really good. The cold being transfered from the cool water in which the dolphin swam, into the big thick cement pillar. It was comforting. Next all he needed was a bottle of water. Shaun looked around, scanned the room for a moment, out of sheer curiosity. He was kind of an A.D.D curious guy to begin with. Props to anyone who could stand him.

"The truth would be nice," Brynn announced, but Shaun had already started speaking. She shifted her weight every so often, standing still had never been one of her strong points. The whole 'patients is a virtue' thing didn't fly for Brynn either. Fidgety, impatient, can't forget hot headed. Those things together we're necessarily a good combination.
Shaun caught her attention when he announced he'd seen her here before, it was creepy in a way. Surprise was obvious on her face, she hadn't expected to be a familiar face to him. Was he really just here for the animals, could it be possible that he was harmless, well, as harmless as any other human being.
"You're making yourself sound like a vampire," Brynn told him a small smile over taking her lips as she spoke those words. She adored vampires, everything about them, or the myths of them that is. She rubbed her face, she was really starting to wonder what time it was, she was drained.
(Agreed!)

"You're making yourself sound like a vampire,"
"What if I am!?" He said snickering slightly. "Actually, even if I was, I'd never tell you. I may know your face and what you do around here, but that doesn't mean that I don't still consider you a stranger to me. Since you don't know me." He said in a matter-of-fact tone.
He folded his arms, and tilted his head as he peered into the tank again. The blues and shards of moonlight captured his attention so much. The colors dancing and shards twirling mystified him. Not because he didn't understand, but because it just looked so cool. Like an optical illusion.
He sighed slightly and looked back over at the girl. Who had still not mentioned her own name. But he figured she would tell him when she was comfortable enough. Thats what he did. He had seen her so many times, the one time she saw him he figured he might as well let her know who he was. But in a sense he was also proud of his own stealth skills seeing as she never knew he was there. But it wasn't a hard task when you were infected. Depending on your 'mutation' tweaks.
"So am I still a threat?" He asked with a slightly smug looking grin on his face. Although even if she had said yes, he might be impressed with one who sticks to they're guns. Yet he also would be impressed if she had just picked up enough intuitively to understand that he was just mostly an observer. "If I was looking to harm you, I wouldn't have let you know I was here.." He stated.
"But aside from my tokio stealthiness, I have a question also proving how un-hot-shot I am." He said with a bit of a laugh in his tone. "What is Skye, a boy or girl? Because I don't understand dolphin genitalia.. And I know Skye is a pretty unisex name. If you ask me." He said quirking his left brow slightly.

Shaun's words repeated in her mind, What if I am? What if I am? What if I am? She was almost unable to contain her opinions on this subject. It would have been pretty tokio if he were a vampire, if vampires even existed that was. Who knows, maybe they do, but just haven't, and never will expose themselves. Who was I kidding, vampires were just as likely to exist as a living sphinx.
Brynn's eye never left Shaun, she still was comfortable with his presence. Apparently he did not feel that same unease. Of course, maybe there was that possibility that he was being honest, that he really wasn't here to harm her. He just wanted to see Skye. As she watched him peer into the tank one feature caught her eye, his extremely define jaw line. Very masculine. She never understood why her eyes were always draw to a persons jaw, but there was no escaping the truth. She could take in something normal, like eyes?
"Not a threat," she told him, "but that doesn't mean I'm totally at ease here." She contorted her mouth in a odd way, pondering if letting her guard down was a good idea. But if he did want to hurt her he probably would have already done so. She was small and looked more vulnerable than she truly was. Her paranoia was letting up, but it was never completely gone. Shaun continued talking and Brynn continued listening.
Did he seriously just ask that? Brynn thought to herself. "You didn't seriously just ask that?" She spoke aloud this time. "The only human Skye's I've met have been female," Brynn caught herself, her stern tone had changed to one that was more defensive. Like Skye knew someone couldn't tell she was a girl. Even if she could, she probably wouldn't care. Why Brynn became defensive, she wasn't sure, but she made sure the changer her tone. It was gentle now, she had reverted back to her soft spoken nature. "Skye's a girl."
